A new mural bearing the slogan “Increasingly Isolated” has been unveiled in Tehran’s Enghelab Square to mark the anniversary of the October 7, 2023, operation known as Al-Aqsa Flood. The mural highlights the global repercussions of the war in Gaza, presenting Israel’s growing international isolation as its central theme.

“Al-Aqsa Flood” is the name Hamas gave to its military operation against Israel on October 7, 2023. Hamas described the operation as a response to what it called Israeli crimes against Palestinians, including killings and the desecration of Al-Aqsa Mosque. The attack was followed by a large-scale Israeli military campaign in the Gaza Strip.

Enghelab Square, one of Tehran’s central public squares, regularly features murals addressing political, social and cultural themes. Their designs often change to mark significant occasions.
Through its slogan, “Increasingly Isolated,” the new mural presents the Gaza war through the lens of its international repercussions. It reflects a narrative that points to mounting criticism of Israel’s conduct and growing international pressure on the country as signs of its increasing isolation.
