The “Arbaeen for Those Left Behind” Ceremony in Iran

Held with the Widespread Participation of Devotees of Imam Hussein (AS)

The Arbaeen for Those Left Behind ritual is a large gathering of the devotees of Imam Hussein (AS), held in various cities of Iran on the eve of the fortieth day after the martyrdom of the third Imam of the Shiites. The Arbaeen pilgrimage is a religious tradition among Shiites, during which pilgrims walk the route from Najaf to Karbala on foot. Those who are unable to attend the pilgrimage in Iraq commemorate the memory of Imam Hussein (AS) by participating in the Arbaeen for Those Left Behind ceremonies in different cities of Iran. This year, a total of ۱۶ million people from Iran took part in these ceremonies across ۸۵۰ cities and ۲,۲۰۰ villages.
